A woman disguised as a nurse abducted a newborn from a Paraguay hospital, but police caught her near the border. Shocking details of her motive have emerged.

A 39-year-old woman has been taken into custody for allegedly abducting a newborn from a hospital in Paraguay, an incident that has shocked many.

Identified as Natalia Edith González, the suspect was apprehended just 165 feet away from a border crossing while holding the infant.

Hospital security footage captured González cradling the baby at the end of a corridor in Barrio Obrero Public Hospital in Asunción, Paraguay’s capital.

Once the mother stepped away, González exited the ward with the one-day-old baby in her arms.

The baby’s 19-year-old mother and her grandmother quickly realized something was wrong.

The grandmother, who had shared tea with the suspect earlier, explained that González had claimed to be at the hospital visiting a sick relative.

Afterward, when she asked the mother where the baby was, she was told that the “nurse” had taken the infant to the pediatric ward.

Alarmed, the grandmother immediately realized something was amiss.

“I told her that she wasn’t a nurse,” the grandmother said.

“We ran after the lady because we saw her with the baby in her arms.”

Authorities acted swiftly, issuing an alert nationwide and focusing heavily on nearby border crossings.

Police spokesperson Juan González said, “We started to cover critical points in the city, especially the borders and footbridges, carrying out checks.”

Following the abduction, the suspect fled the hospital and boarded a bus to Mercado 4, a bustling area in Asunción, where she purchased clothing for herself and the baby.

From there, she took a taxi to Loma Pytá, eventually asking the driver which bus she should take to cross the border into Clorinda, Argentina.

González, a resident of Formosa, Argentina, was apprehended by Paraguayan police near the border, with the infant still in her arms.

Reports indicate she resisted arrest.

The baby was returned unharmed to her teenage mother and is said to be in good health.

Meanwhile, the investigation has unearthed troubling details about González’s motivations.

Prosecutor Laura Finestra revealed that the suspect had fabricated an elaborate lie to her family and partner, claiming she was pregnant and had given birth in an Argentine hospital.

However, phone evidence indicates she had crossed into Paraguay in mid-December and visited multiple hospitals before targeting the young mother.

“She told her family she was in a hospital in Formosa to give birth, but in reality, she crossed into Paraguay and stole a child,” Finestra stated.

The prosecutor also confirmed that González’s partner was stunned upon learning the truth.

Evidence found on the suspect’s phone corroborates the events leading up to the abduction, though authorities have not found any connection to a human trafficking network.

González has chosen not to testify and has provided conflicting statements, some of which implicated others but were proven false.

For now, the investigation continues as authorities work to uncover more details about the case.
