Falklands War Defence Secretary Sir John Nott Leaves £2M to Family in Will
Falklands War Defence Secretary Sir John Nott left over £2M to his wife and children, including author Sasha Swire, and a Cornwall estate in his will after passing at 92.

Sir John Nott, who served as Defence Secretary during the Falklands War, left more than £2 million to his wife and children in his will.
The former Conservative MP, who passed away in November at the age of 92, had an estate valued at £2,056,200, later adjusted to £2,049,785 after deductions.
His fortune was bequeathed to his wife, Lady Miloska, along with their children—Julian, William, and Sasha.

Among the assets left to his family was a property in St Erth, Cornwall, placed in trust.

His daughter, Sasha Swire, is a well-known author, recognized for her political memoir *Diary of an MP’s Wife*. She is married to former Tory MP Hugo Swire.
Sir John became a key figure in British politics during the Falklands War in 1982, having been appointed Defence Secretary by Margaret Thatcher in 1981.

When Argentina invaded the islands, he initially offered to resign—later admitting he had to look up where they were—but ultimately remained in office.
He was part of the five-man war cabinet that made crucial decisions alongside Thatcher and Chief of the Defence Staff Admiral Lewin.
One of his most memorable moments came in October 1982 during a BBC television interview with Sir Robin Day.

Frustrated by repeated questioning over Royal Navy budget cuts and criticism from senior naval figures, Sir John removed his microphone and walked off, declaring, *“I’m fed up with this interview. Really, it’s ridiculous.”*
After leaving politics in 1983, he turned his attention to restoring his 200-acre farm in St Erth, where he spent his later years enjoying hunting, fishing, and shooting.
His passing marks the loss of a key player in Britain’s defence history, remembered for his role in the Falklands conflict and his no-nonsense approach to political scrutiny.
