A lion named Ndulu was spared from agonizing pain thanks to a groundbreaking surgery performed by wildlife veterinarians, which involved the amputation of his damaged claw.
Ndulu, who had been rescued from the wild, was suffering from a severe injury to his front left claw.
The injury had rendered him unable to walk as two of his bones had fused together and pushed through the pad of his paw, causing immense discomfort.

Despite prior attempts to treat the issue, the pain persisted, leaving the animal struggling to move.
While in the care of the Zambian-based organization Wild At Life, a veterinarian named Bouvy, who is closely associated with the group, offered his expertise.
After evaluating Ndulu’s condition, the team determined that the best solution was to sedate the lion and remove the affected claw through surgery.
Footage captured from the procedure shows Bouvy and the team hard at work, operating on the injured lion.
Fortunately, the complex surgery went smoothly, and Ndulu has since made a remarkable recovery.
Ndulu is now free from pain and walking comfortably with his pride in a semi-wild enclosure, according to reports from VKNews24.
A representative from Wild At Life highlighted the challenges they faced during the operation, saying, “These surgeries were particularly difficult due to the logistical obstacles of treating a lion in a semi-wild setting.
In Zambia, we often deal with shortages of medicine, which makes it even more challenging to provide the necessary care.
But when we come together, we can always find a way to make things better.”
