Jason and Travis Kelce Were ‘Conflicted’ Over Podcast Name, According to ‘New Heights’ Producer

Jason and Travis Kelce’s "New Heights" Podcast: Behind the Scenes and Beyond
The Intern Spills the Tea: Behind the Scenes of "New Heights"
In a recent bonus episode of Jason and Travis Kelce’s wildly popular podcast, New Heights, the dynamic duo’s producer, Brandon Borders (affectionately known as "Intern Brandon"), dished out some hilarious and revealing behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the podcast’s origins. The episode, which dropped on Wondery+ on Thursday, February 27, featured Borders reminiscing about how he first joined the team and his early impressions of the brothers. One of the most memorable moments he shared was the siblings’ heated debate over the podcast’s name.
Borders recalled, “You were fighting about the title of the show. I don’t remember what the options were, but Jason, you were really conflicted between two or three. You really were like, ‘I don’t know about New Heights.’ And I remember Travis going, ‘That’s the name you f—–g pitched!’” Jason eventually came around to the name, but the exchange left Borders thinking, “Oh s—, these guys are gonna be really good podcasters.” Jason, never one to take himself too seriously, joked that this back-and-forth is how most of his decisions are made. “I go back and forth and really meticulously try to think something through,” he admitted, while Travis is typically the one to cut through the overthinking and say, “Just do this.”
Borders also couldn’t resist sharing another funny memory of his first interaction with Jason. Over Zoom, Jason hopped on the call holding his laptop and walking around, only to suddenly pause and say, “Hold on, I gotta put a shirt on.” Borders laughed, “I was like, ‘I get this guy.’” These lighthearted moments capture the brothers’ authentic, down-to-earth personalities, which have endeared them to fans and helped New Heights become a must-listen podcast.
The Beginnings of a Brotherhood Rekindled
Jason and Travis Kelce launched New Heights in 2022, and for the brothers, it’s been more than just a professional venture. Jason opened up about how the podcast has strengthened their relationship, admitting that before starting the show, they often went months without having a meaningful conversation. “We would text, you would send a funny video or something like that,” he shared on Green Light with Chris Long in February 2024, “but truly sit down and talk with him? It would be a long time.”
The weekly podcast has changed that. “We’re gonna sit down and talk, and we’re gonna have very meaningful conversations, fun conversations, and really know where each of us are at in their lives,” Jason said. For fans, it’s clear that the bond between the brothers is one of the podcast’s greatest strengths. Their chemistry is undeniable, and their ability to balance humor, introspection, and expertise has made New Heights a standout in the sports podcasting world.
A Podcast Evolves: Embracing a New Audience
Over the past two years, New Heights has undergone a subtle but significant evolution. While the podcast remains grounded in NFL analysis and football culture, its audience has expanded thanks to an unexpected factor: Travis Kelce’s high-profile relationship with global superstar Taylor Swift. As a result, the show has attracted a new wave of listeners who may not have been diehard football fans before.
Jason addressed this shift during the 2024 Cannes Lions Festival, saying, “We wanna be careful to really stay loyal to the people who have tuned in from day one. We know that a lot of the guys tuning in—and women tuning in—are diehard football fans and they want that content. But now it’s really expanding.” The brothers have embraced this growth, recognizing that their podcast is no longer just for football enthusiasts but for anyone drawn to their camaraderie, humor, and honest storytelling.
Staying True to Their Roots
Despite the influx of new listeners, Jason and Travis have been careful not to alienate their original fanbase. They’ve struck a balance by continuing to deliver the in-depth NFL coverage and football banter that made New Heights a hit in the first place. At the same time, they’ve leaned into their personal lives, sharing stories that resonate with a broader audience.
This approach has paid off. The podcast remains a go-to destination for football fans while also appealing to those who tune in for the brothers’ chemistry and shared experiences. Jason acknowledged, “We talk about our lives,” but they’ve done so in a way that feels natural and authentic. The result is a podcast that’s as much about football as it is about family, friendship, and growth.
Looking Ahead: The Future of "New Heights"
As New Heights continues to grow, Jason and Travis Kelce are firmly in the driver’s seat. With their producer Brandon Borders by their side, the team has built a platform that’s both entertaining and meaningful. The brothers’ willingness to be vulnerable, along with their ability to connect with listeners from all walks of life, has set New Heights apart in the crowded podcasting landscape.
Looking ahead, the Kelce brothers seem poised to take their podcast to even greater heights. Whether they’re diving into the latest NFL drama, sharing personal anecdotes, or embracing their ever-expanding audience, Jason and Travis are proving that New Heights is more than a podcast—it’s a reflection of their bond, their humor, and their shared journey. And for fans, that’s something worth celebrating.
