WME Head Says He ‘Fired’ Justin Baldoni Because He Is ‘Ride or Die’ for Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds

Hollywood Controversy: The Battle Between Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Justin Baldoni
A High-Stakes Legal Battle Rocks Hollywood
The entertainment industry is no stranger to controversy, but a recent legal dispute involving A-listers Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and director Justin Baldoni has sent shockwaves through Hollywood. At the center of the storm is a heated legal battle that has not only strained professional relationships but also sparked a wider conversation about power dynamics and accountability in the film industry. The situation took a dramatic turn when Justin Baldoni, a 41-year-old actor, director, and former client of the prestigious talent agency WME, was dropped by the agency following allegations made by Lively.
The conflict began late last year when Lively, who starred alongside Baldoni in the 2024 film It Ends With Us, filed a lawsuit against him in December 2024. The lawsuit alleged sexual harassment and claims that Baldoni attempted to sabotage her reputation. Baldoni, who directed and co-starred in the film, vehemently denied the accusations and fired back with a defamation lawsuit of his own. In a surprising twist, Baldoni’s legal team also named Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, in the motion. The married couple has publicly denounced the allegations, calling them baseless and harmful.
Ari Emanuel Weighs In: A Show of Support for Lively and Reynolds
As the legal drama unfolded, Ari Emanuel, CEO of Endeavor (WME’s parent company), made headlines when he openly discussed the situation during a live recording of the Freakonomics podcast on February 12. Emanuel, a powerhouse in the entertainment industry, did not mince words when expressing his support for Lively and Reynolds, whom he described as “good people.” He revealed that Baldoni was once his client but was dropped by WME. “I mean, it’s a f—ed up, bad situation with what Baldoni … is doing,” Emanuel remarked, adding, “I am a ride or die. And they are good people.”
Emanuel’s comments underscored his loyalty to Lively and Reynolds, with whom he has had a professional relationship spanning over a decade. He praised the couple for their kindness, professionalism, and charitable efforts, emphasizing that they have never been associated with any negative behavior in their careers. “They’re really incredible people,” Emanuel said. “In Hollywood, they have been incredibly successful. People work with them, they’ve never had any bad mojo out there or treated people badly.”
Emanuel Doubts Baldoni’s Claims
Emanuel’s support for Lively and Reynolds was not just about loyalty; he also made it clear that he believes their side of the story over Baldoni’s. He expressed skepticism about the claims made by Baldoni and his team, even going so far as to suggest that their actions on social media had been “evil” if the allegations in Lively’s lawsuit were true. “If what is alleged in her lawsuit [and] what happened on social media is true, just because she complained to the studio that things were unhealthy on the set, and that he was the director and this man was the producer, and they did to her what is being alleged, they’re really bad people,” Emanuel said.
He also criticized Baldoni’s legal team, led by attorney Bryan Freedman, for their aggressive approach to the case. Emanuel argued that if Baldoni truly believed he was innocent, he and his team should let the legal process unfold without manipulating public opinion. “Let the process play itself out,” Emanuel said. “These are good people that have been in the business for decades, and have never had any bad press about them and all the people they work with like them. So, if it’s true what they’re saying in that allegation, these are two bad guys.”
Baldoni’s Camp Fires Back
Baldoni’s team has been vocal in defending him against the allegations, with attorney Bryan Freedman actively speaking to the media and presenting evidence to support their client’s innocence. In an effort to counter Lively’s claims, Freedman even launched a website that purportedly documents proof of Baldoni’s version of events. Despite Emanuel’s calls for them to “stop” if they truly believe they are innocent, Baldoni’s legal team has shown no signs of backing down.
Us Weekly reached out to Baldoni’s team for a response to Emanuel’s comments, but no official statement has been released yet. However, it’s clear that Baldoni and his team are committed to fighting the allegations and clearing his name in court.
The Bigger Picture: Power, Loyalty, and Accountability in Hollywood
This high-profile dispute raises important questions about power dynamics, loyalty, and accountability in Hollywood. While Emanuel’s comments reflect the strong support that Lively and Reynolds have within the industry, they also highlight the challenges faced by individuals like Baldoni when they go up against established stars with significant influence.
At the heart of this conflict is a complex interplay of personal and professional relationships, legal strategies, and public perception. As the case moves forward, it will be important to see how the court system navigates these allegations and whether justice can be served fairly, regardless of the high-profile nature of the individuals involved.
For now, the situation serves as a reminder of the cutthroat nature of the entertainment industry and the delicate balance of power that shapes so much of what happens behind the scenes. Whether the truth will ultimately come to light remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: this legal battle has far-reaching implications, not just for those directly involved, but for the broader Hollywood community as well.
