A Christmas tree meant to bring cheer to a community in Deptford, southeast London, has instead sparked widespread mockery among residents due to its lackluster appearance.
The diminutive fir, situated in a small pedestrian area near a cluster of local shops, has been described as underwhelming, with its sparse decorations comprising a smattering of baubles, tinsel, and fairy lights.
Encased in security railings, the tree has become a source of both amusement and frustration for locals.

One resident humorously remarked that the tree seemed to have been assembled on a shoestring budget, quipping, “It looks like it cost £10 to put this together.”
Sharing his disbelief over the protective barricade, he sarcastically added, “Like anyone would want to steal this. But honestly, I hope someone does.”
Another disgruntled local didn’t mince words, expressing their embarrassment about the display.
“What the fck.
This is the first time I admit I’m ashamed to be from Lewisham,” they said, before launching into a scathing critique.
“It looks like it was put together by nursery kids.
And to make it worse, they’ve barricaded this sit like it’s something worth protecting.”
The disappointment was echoed by Vik Singh, who summed up his reaction with a single word: “Mad.”
The tree, positioned near a barber shop and off-licence along the A200, was part of a community event organized by the Deptford Society.
Earlier this month, the group advertised a light switch-on ceremony, inviting residents to join in with promises of “music and snacks.”
However, the reception to the event’s centerpiece suggests the tree may have done little to inspire festive spirit.
