Spain’s Costa del Sol has been battered by severe storms this week, bringing torrential rain, tornadoes, and dramatic scenes in towns like Malaga.
While thousands of residents were evacuated from areas near the Guadalmedina and Vélez rivers due to rising floodwaters, some locals approached the chaos with remarkable nonchalance.
One particularly striking video shows an elderly man calmly seated at an outdoor bar in Malaga, beer in hand, as floodwaters rush beneath his feet, splashing his legs.

At one point, he glances at the deluge with apparent annoyance for disrupting his drink, a moment that has drawn both humor and astonishment online.
Locals quipped that he was simply “solving his problems” in his own way.
Adding to the surreal scenes, another video captures a young man kayaking down a flooded street in the same city.
Relaxed in his makeshift vessel, he lifts two bottles of alcohol in celebration while amused neighbors shout remarks.
One resident dryly referred to him as “the village idiot.”
The extreme weather is part of the Dana storm system, a phenomenon unique to the Mediterranean.
Known as a “cold drop,” Dana forms when cold air at high altitudes interacts with warm, moist air, producing intense rainfall and severe storms.
The region has been placed under red alert, with Costa del Sol areas like Marbella receiving an extraordinary 7.1 inches of rain in just a few hours.
The storm has also caused significant disruptions, including diverted and delayed flights at Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport.
Nine regions across Spain remain on high alert, and authorities are closely monitoring the impact of the ongoing weather crisis.
