The show follows the story of a male stripper who, after serving seven years in prison for a crime he claims he didn’t commit, embarks on a journey to prove his innocence and expose the real culprit.
The series captivated audiences with its intense plot and stylish production before concluding its two-season run in 2021.
Beyond Toy Boy, de la Torre showcased his talent in several notable Spanish productions, including Amar es para siempre, Vis a Vis: El Oasis, and Servir y proteger.
His versatility as an actor and his on-screen charisma earned him a devoted fan base, with his Instagram following reaching 459,000 by the time of his passing.
His final Instagram post, shared on June 3, painted a picture of joy and freedom.
It featured him enjoying a music festival in the Canary Islands, accompanied by the caption: “The joy of arriving in the Canary Islands, seeing your friends, grabbing a mojito, and singing your heart out until you lose your voice.”
This snapshot of happiness starkly contrasts the challenges he faced in his final months.
A graduate of the Málaga Higher School of Performing Arts, de la Torre hailed from Montilla in Córdoba Province, though he had made Málaga his home.
His journey into the entertainment industry began over a decade ago with a starring role in a music video for the Spanish pop duo Nena Daconte.
Over the years, he also worked as a model, collaborating with high-profile fashion, jewelry, and accessory brands.
De la Torre’s artistic path was deeply rooted in his love for cinema, a passion he described in an interview: “From a very young age, I found solace in cinema – though not so much in acting, at least not at first.
I was a child who couldn’t stop watching films, purely for the joy of it. But that captivated me and planted the seed that would later grow into my desire to pursue it as a career.”
He is survived by his parents and sister, who mourn his loss alongside countless fans and colleagues.
His funeral took place in his hometown of Montilla on Friday, December 6.
Tributes poured in from across the entertainment world, with actress Luisa Martín sharing a heartfelt message: “It breaks my heart to think I’ll never hear your voice again, but I’ll keep talking to you.
Love you endlessly, José.”
Singer Lolita Flores also honored his memory online.
José de la Torre leaves behind a legacy of talent, resilience, and warmth that will be remembered by those who knew him and the many who admired his work.
