More than 20 passengers were injured when two buses collided on a wet road in western Colombia, causing one of the vehicles to veer off into a wooded area.

The accident happened on Sunday night, November 17, along the Neiva-Castilla road in Coyaima.

The crash occurred when a Coomotor bus slowed down at a speed bump and a Cootranshuila bus traveling behind it failed to stop in time, slamming into the first vehicle.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, including Traffic Police from the Tolima Police Department and several ambulances.

Most of the injured passengers were transported to San Antonio Hospital in Natagaima, while those with more serious injuries were taken to larger medical facilities in El Espinal and Neiva for further treatment.

Captain Laura Marcela Lara, a spokesperson for the Traffic Police, noted that weather conditions likely contributed to the crash.

She stated, “A traffic accident occurred on the Neiva-Castilla road involving two passenger transport vehicles belonging to the company Cootranshuila, which covered the Pitalito-Bogotá route, and Coomotor, which covered the Neiva-Cali route.”

She emphasized the importance of safe driving, urging all road users to avoid speeding and dangerous maneuvers.

An investigation into the exact cause of the accident is ongoing.
