Police revealed that the altercation between the two men began at a nightclub and continued at a nearby bar.
The suspect, identified as Rodrigo Bueno, allegedly left the scene after the argument, only to return with a firearm.
De Andrade had been speaking with people outside the bar and was preparing to leave when Bueno returned and opened fire.
A man who had been chatting with the rapper attempted to step in but was threatened by the gunman.
According to Police Chief Marcelo Prado, the argument ignited after De Andrade greeted a woman, who kissed him on the cheek.
Bueno, who was with the woman, reportedly became jealous, leading to the violent confrontation in Carapicuíba, west of São Paulo, Brazil.
Bueno fled the scene following the shooting and is now being pursued by authorities.
De Andrade, known by his stage name MC Vini VL, was a popular “favela funk” rapper, a genre influenced by hip-hop and rooted in Brazil’s favelas.
He had over 43,000 followers on social media, and several of his collaborations garnered millions of views on YouTube.
He was laid to rest in Carapicuíba on Tuesday, October 1.
