Alaska can be ‘cure’ for nation’s ‘ills’ with help from Trump admin, governor says

Alaska Poised to Lead America’s Energy and Economic Revival
In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy expressed his enthusiasm for the state’s potential to play a pivotal role in restoring America’s energy independence, stimulating job growth, and reducing government debt. Speaking on the sidelines of the National Governors Association and Republican Governors Association winter meetings, Dunleavy emphasized Alaska’s unique position to lead the nation toward prosperity through responsible resource management and strategic partnerships. He highlighted his eagerness to collaborate with President Donald Trump and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to advance these goals, particularly in the realm of energy dominance and sustainable development. Dunleavy’s vision aligns with Trump’s broader strategy of harnessing America’s natural resources to achieve economic and energy self-sufficiency.
Unleashing Alaska’s Energy Potential
Alaska’s vast natural resources have long been recognized as a cornerstone of America’s energy strategy. Dunleavy pointed to the state’s untapped potential in hydroelectric power, particularly within the Tongass National Forest. He expressed his desire to work with Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins to expand infrastructure in this region. By leveraging the U.S. Forest Service’s role in resource development, Dunleavy aims to unlock the economic opportunities that these lands hold. He noted that the Tongass National Forest, championed by the late Rep. Don Young, is not merely a preserve but a resource meant to be utilized responsibly. Similarly, Dunleavy highlighted the vast mineral wealth of the Ambler region, located near the Dalton Highway. While a 30-mile section of the Ambler Access Road crosses federal land, Dunleavy emphasized that Alaska’s rights to this passage are legally guaranteed, enabling access to the area’s rich mineral deposits. He expressed confidence that Trump’s administration would finally authorize this critical infrastructure project, allowing Alaska to capitalize on its abundant natural resources and create jobs for its residents.
Redrawing the Map of Energy Dominance
Dunleavy also underscored the importance of Alaska’s gas pipeline infrastructure and the development of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). The ANWR-1002 oil lease, which President Biden was mandated to market but allegedly undermined, represents a missed opportunity for energy production and economic growth. Dunleavy criticized the Biden administration’s approach, calling the lease sale a “sham” that failed to attract serious investment. However, he remains optimistic that Trump’s leadership will reverse this trend. The governor emphasized the strategic importance of ANWR-1002, not only for Alaska but also for the nation. By expanding Alaska’s gas pipeline infrastructure, the state can contribute to global energy security, particularly benefiting Asian allies who rely on American energy exports. “Our gas lines would also impact our position in the Pacific,” Dunleavy said, highlighting the broader geopolitical implications of Alaska’s energy projects.
A Green Energy Vision for Alaska
While Alaska is renowned for its fossil fuel resources, Dunleavy is also championing innovative approaches to green energy. He has long advocated for harnessing the state’s unique natural phenomena, such as the powerful tides in Cook Inlet, to produce reliable and sustainable energy. Cook Inlet, which stretches from Anchorage to the Kenai Peninsula, boasts some of the most dynamic tides in the world, making it an ideal location for tidal power projects. Dunleavy envisions the development of “green hydrogen” as a key component of this strategy, rejecting the notion that the debate between fossil fuels and renewable energy must be a zero-sum game. Instead, he believes in a balanced approach that leverages Alaska’s natural resources to create a diverse energy portfolio. This vision aligns with Trump’s commitment to “unleashing American energy,” as stated by a White House spokesman. By embracing both traditional and renewable energy sources, Alaska can serve as a model for the rest of the nation, demonstrating how economic growth and environmental stewardship can coexist.
Alaska’s Strategic Role in National Defense
Beyond its economic potential, Alaska plays a critical role in national defense. As the only U.S. state bordering Russia, Alaska’s strategic location makes it a vital asset for military and surveillance activities. Dunleavy highlighted the strength of Alaska’s defense infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a robust military presence in the region. The state’s proximity to Russia underscores the need for vigilance and investment in defense capabilities. At the same time, Alaska’s natural resources provide a foundation for economic resilience, which is essential for national security. By developing its energy and mineral wealth, Alaska can contribute to America’s strategic independence and reduce reliance on foreign nations.
A Partnership for Prosperity
Dunleavy’s vision for Alaska’s future is deeply intertwined with the Trump administration’s priorities. He expressed his confidence in Trump’s ability to implement policies that unlock Alaska’s full potential, from energy development to infrastructure expansion. The governor’s enthusiasm for collaboration reflects a broader recognition of the importance of state-federal partnerships in achieving national goals. As Alaska continues to assert its role as a leader in energy production and resource stewardship, it serves as a powerful reminder of the potential for American renewal and growth. Through responsible development and strategic innovation, Alaska is not only charting its own course but also paving the way for a more prosperous and energy-independent America.
