Xi Jinping: China’s Climate Change Efforts Will Stay Strong Despite Global Politics

Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China will not slow down its work to fight climate change, even though the world is facing political changes. He made this clear in a video meeting held by the United Nations and Brazil. The meeting focused on climate change and the move to cleaner energy. This was reported by the official Chinese news agency Xinhua.
President Xi said that some countries are choosing to act alone and protect their own interests. He said this is hurting international cooperation and global rules.
He also said that the world must stay united. He called the United Nations a key part of that unity.
He did not name any specific country, but experts believe he was speaking about the United States. The US is now increasing its fossil fuel use and is also in a trade fight with China.
Brazil hopes for stronger climate promises
Brazil is working closely with China and the UN on climate issues. Brazil will host the COP30 climate talks in 2025. At that event, countries are expected to bring new plans to reduce pollution and invest in clean energy.
Brazil is asking China, the world’s largest energy user and biggest polluter, to make stronger climate promises. China’s support will be key to the success of future talks.
China’s current climate goals
China has already set some clear goals to deal with climate change.
It plans to stop growing its carbon emissions by 2030. After that, emissions should start going down.
By the year 2060, China wants to be carbon neutral. That means the amount of carbon it puts into the air will be the same as the amount it removes.
China is also building more solar and wind power systems. It leads the world in producing electric cars.
Global cooperation is under pressure
Right now, many countries are facing economic and political pressure. Some are stepping back from climate promises. Others are putting their own needs first.
President Xi said that this is not the right way. He asked countries to work together and support the international system, with the United Nations at its center.
Experts say China plays a big role
Experts say China’s actions are very important to global climate success. It produces more greenhouse gases than any other country. But it also has the power to lead others and make a big difference.
The International Energy Agency said last year that global emissions reached a new high. Unless big countries like China, the US, and India take strong action, the world will not meet its climate targets.
What’s coming at COP30
The COP30 meeting in 2025 is expected to be a key moment. Brazil wants all countries to bring updated climate plans.
There will also be talks about money to help poor countries fight climate change. Brazil and the UN hope that countries like China will show strong leadership.
China’s promise to stay on track gives some hope. It may encourage other countries to do the same.
