A tourist visiting a popular mountain destination found himself in an unexpected showdown with a determined monkey trying to snatch his bag.
The incident unfolded at the Huangshizhai viewpoint in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China’s Hunan Province and was captured on video.
The drama began when a macaque attempted to swipe the man’s bag, apparently mistaking it for a stash of food. Reacting quickly, the tourist stood firmly on the bag to stop the animal from making off with it.

In a tense standoff, the monkey scaled a wooden fence to meet the man face-to-face, snarling and baring its teeth in a clear display of aggression.
The tourist, unfazed, adopted a defensive boxing stance.
When the monkey moved to attack, the man struck with a left hook that sent the animal tumbling off the fence.
Undeterred, the macaque climbed back up, only to be met with a firm jab to its jaw, prompting it to retreat temporarily.
Moments later, the persistent animal reemerged from nearby foliage, eyeing the bag once again.
Determined not to lose his belongings, the tourist kept his foot firmly planted on the bag.
The standoff ended when another visitor intervened, using a walking pole to scare the macaque away.
Local media confirmed that the tourist managed to protect his possessions despite the monkey’s relentless attempts.
The bizarre confrontation has drawn a mix of reactions online, with one local defending the tourist’s actions as self-defense against the aggressive macaque.
Others commented on the reputation of the park’s monkeys, describing them as particularly bold and sometimes dangerous.
Park officials have since reminded visitors that while the wild macaques may seem endearing, they pose significant risks if provoked.
Tourists are advised to keep a safe distance and avoid feeding the animals to prevent similar encounters.
