A driver has been arrested after police discovered cannabis worth £35,000 stashed in Ikea bags in the boot of his car.
Officers stopped the black Audi during a routine check in the City of London and uncovered the drugs haul after realizing the driver was uninsured.
Inside the vehicle, police found several blue-and-white Ikea sacks containing vacuum-packed bags of cannabis, weighing a total of 3.5 kilograms.

Another bag in the boot held silver packages of the drug.
The entire discovery was captured on a body camera, with the officer informing the 29-year-old suspect: “I’m arresting you on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, namely Class B cannabis, with intent to supply.” The car was immediately seized as evidence.
The arrest formed part of Operation Drive Insured, a week-long campaign targeting uninsured drivers.
According to a City of London Police spokesperson, officers from the Targeted Intercept and Tactical ANPR team stopped the vehicle and found the drugs during their search.
The suspect, who was also found to be disqualified from driving, has since been released on conditional bail pending further investigations.
Locals were quick to ridicule the driver, whose decision to transport such a large quantity of drugs in an uninsured car was widely mocked online.
One commenter, Geoff, said, “Criminals can be dumb. Moving stuff around in an uninsured car.”
Another, Sean McDonagh, added, “No s*it Sherlock,” while Alison branded the driver “a wally.”
Others chimed in with remarks like “What a plonker” and “schoolboy error.”
Inspector Jo Cash from the City of London Police highlighted the broader implications of the operation, noting, “Uninsured driving is often linked to other criminal activities.
This week’s work has not only resulted in seizing vehicles but also in taking harmful drugs off our streets.”
The suspect’s car remains impounded as investigations continue.
