Startled, Silva instinctively touches her head before inspecting her hand and glancing around the otherwise empty pool area, trying to make sense of what had happened.
The unusual incident occurred on Sunday, December 29, at a residential complex in Barra da Tijuca, a neighborhood in the western part of Rio de Janeiro.
Silva was promptly taken to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital, where medical staff conducted a CT scan and ensured she was stable.
She was discharged just a few hours later and is reportedly recovering well.
Local authorities, including the Civil Police, have launched an investigation into the mysterious occurrence to determine the source of the object and whether it was intentionally or accidentally fired.
The bizarre nature of the event has left both residents and investigators seeking answers.
