A property developer had his £1,350 Stone Island jacket stolen from his Tesla before the audacious thief attempted to return it to Harrods for a refund—only to be caught in the act.

Opinder Kaushal, 47, had purchased the designer coat in cash from the luxury department store and placed the shopping bag in the boot of his £40,000 Tesla Model 3.

He then drove just two miles from Knightsbridge to Mayfair for lunch, unaware he was being watched.

Footage from the Tesla’s built-in CCTV system captured the moment the thief arrived on a bicycle, casually propped it against the car, and swiftly shattered the glass to grab the shopping bag.

The suspect cycled away at around 3:40 pm on March 10.

Later that evening, Kaushal contacted Harrods to request a duplicate receipt for an insurance claim, only to be stunned by what they told him—the same thief had brazenly entered the store at 6:00 pm, attempting to return the jacket for cash.

Staff confronted him, prompting the suspect to flee empty-handed.

Recounting the ordeal, Kaushal said, *”I put the bag in the boot—it wasn’t on display.

Someone must have seen me and followed. When I got back, the police were already there.”*

The Metropolitan Police confirmed they are investigating the theft, stating, *”No arrests have been made at this stage. Enquiries continue.”*

Social media users were quick to react, with one person dubbing the incident another example of *“Lawless London.”*

Others advised shoppers to avoid leaving high-end purchases visible, while some mocked Kaushal’s luxury choices. One user quipped, *“Next time, put the jacket in a Primark bag.”*

Despite the thief’s failed refund attempt, the crime serves as a stark reminder that high-end shopping in London comes with risks—even when your purchases are out of sight.
