Initial reports indicate that Fernando managed to escape the fire by leaping from a window, though he suffered a broken leg in the process.
The couple had been planning to return to Brazil between December 29 and 30, according to the Alagoas Doctors’ Union, where Carolina worked.
The fire reportedly broke out at around 9:21 PM and quickly spread through the hotel.
Two other victims, identified as 35-year-old American tourist Freeman Timothy Jr. and 27-year-old Ukrainian Tuzov Victor, were pronounced dead at local hospitals, Vajira Hospital and Samitivej Chinatown Hospital, respectively.
The heartbreaking news has prompted an outpouring of grief on social media, with many sending condolences and messages of support to Carolina’s loved ones. Vitor Nunes wrote, “Rest in peace, very sad news,” while Cristina Oliveira shared, “My condolences to the family, may God receive you for eternal life.”
Another mourner described Carolina as “so beautiful, full of life,” expressing sorrow over her passing.
Many others extended their prayers and well-wishes to the grieving families.
The tragic incident has left Carolina’s family, friends, and colleagues in shock as they remember the young doctor who had so much to look forward to.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
