A man was arrested after making a desperate attempt to stop a plane from leaving without him by running onto the runway and positioning himself directly in its path.

The 29-year-old passenger, who had missed his flight on the afternoon of March 3, bypassed all security measures at El Tepual International Airport in Puerto Montt, Chile, to reach the aircraft he was meant to board.

Footage captured from inside the terminal shows him standing defiantly on the tarmac as the plane prepared for departure.

He remained in front of the aircraft for about a minute before an airport worker wearing a high-visibility jacket approached and led him away.

Security personnel quickly restrained him before handing him over to the police.

The man, who was reportedly attempting to board a LATAM Airlines flight to Concepción, now faces possible charges for his actions.

This bizarre incident comes just weeks after another alarming event on February 7, when a passenger on an Iberia flight from Paris Orly to Madrid allegedly assaulted a flight attendant before opening an emergency exit and leaping onto the tarmac.

The man had suddenly risen from his seat and rushed toward the front of the Airbus A320 as it was taxiing for takeoff.

Despite an intervention from the flight crew, he managed to open the emergency door and jumped approximately 11.5 feet onto the runway while the plane’s engines were still running.

Emergency responders quickly detained him, and despite the disruption, the flight eventually departed for Madrid later that evening, albeit with a four-and-a-half-hour delay.

The aircraft was briefly taken out of service but resumed operations the following afternoon.

LATAM Airlines has been contacted for a statement regarding the latest security breach.
