The world of pets is a treasure trove of heartwarming stories and hilarious antics, bringing joy to millions of people every day. From an orphaned lamb adopted by a gentle dog to a cat’s chaotic backflip over the table, our furry friends have a unique way of melting hearts and making us laugh. This week, Newsweek’s Pet of the Week feature highlights some of the most endearing and entertaining pets that have captured the hearts of their owners and the internet alike. Whether it’s a pair of dogs with an unbreakable bond, a playful puppy, or a mischievous cat, these pets remind us why they are such beloved members of our families. If you think your pet has what it takes to be in the spotlight next week, keep reading to find out how to submit their story.

Meet Frank and Minnie: The Dynamic Duo

This week’s Pet of the Week winners are Frank and Minnie, two dogs whose heartwarming bond has stolen the hearts of everyone who has heard their story. Frank, a lively mixed-breed dog, and Minnie, a rescued pit mix, didn’t always get along. When Frank was first brought home, Minnie was curious but cautious, barking and growling at her new housemate. Her owner, Christy Klingman, recalled that Minnie was unsure whether Frank was a friend or foe. But with time and careful introduction, the two began to form an unexpected yet beautiful friendship.

As the weeks went by, Minnie’s hesitation turned into affection, and she took on the role of both protector and disciplinarian. When Frank gets too excited and starts barking excessively, Minnie gently places her paw on his back to calm him down. If Frank chases the vacuum cleaner, Minnie steps in front of it, as if to say, “Enough, Frank.” Now, the duo, aged 8 and 5 respectively, are inseparable. They can often be found napping together or playing tug-of-war, their bond growing stronger with each passing day.

Oatley: The Sweetheart Pit Bull Puppy

Our first finalist this week is Oatley, an American pit bull puppy who has already won the heart of her owner, Mela. Oatley is the epitome of sweetness, with a personality that makes her impossible to resist. She loves playing, snuggling, and, of course, sleeping in her cozy baby playpen. Recently, she even learned a few commands: “sit,” “no,” and “hush.” But Oatley’s cuteness doesn’t stop there. At bedtime, she adorably wears her pajamas, and whether she’s at home or on the go, she’s always by Mela’s side, often riding in her pet stroller. Oatley’s journey from a playful puppy to a well-behaved companion is a testament to the joy and love that pets bring into our lives.

Koji: From Tough Beginnings to Playful Companion

Next up is Koji, a lovable black cat who has overcome a difficult start in life to become a playful and curious companion. Koji’s story began sadly when his mother was killed, and he was left to be nursed with a tiny bottle as a “bottle baby failure.” But despite his tough beginnings, Koji has grown into a charming and entertaining cat. He’s known for his adorable squeak noises, which have become a hallmark of his personality. As a natural hunter, Koji loves chasing anything that moves, keeping his family entertained with his antics. His journey from a vulnerable kitten to a confident and playful cat is a heartwarming reminder of the resilience and joy that pets bring into our lives.

Gus: The Mischievous yet Lovable Cat

Last but certainly not least is Gus, a mischievous yet lovable cat whose full name is Angus Theodore Wilson. Gus has been with his owner, Luann Wilson, since he was just a tiny 5-week-old kitten, found crying loudly in a bush. At the time, Gus was scared, alone, and hungry, but he has since grown into the sweetest companion. He’s always by his owner’s side, sometimes even when she doesn’t realize it. Luann shared a funny story about how her son took a photo of Gus at 3 AM, looking guilty, as if he had been up to some mischief. “No wonder I don’t get good sleep,” she laughed. Gus’s journey from a helpless kitten to a beloved and mischievous companion is a testament to the joy and laughter that pets bring into our lives.
