Kitten rescued after falling into asphalt bucket
A kitten trapped in asphalt for days is rescued in Taiwan. Covered in burns and tar, her dramatic recovery is a powerful story of survival and hope.

A kitten that had become trapped in a bucket filled with asphalt has been rescued in a dramatic and heartbreaking ordeal, after potentially spending up to two days stuck inside.
The tiny cat, believed to have fallen into the sticky substance by accident, was left soaked in harsh chemicals that caused severe burns across most of its body.
A distressing video captured the kitten lying motionless, nearly submerged in the thick black substance, its small body almost entirely encased in hardened asphalt.

The animal looked terrified and visibly weak as rescuers carefully used a shovel to extract it from the bucket without causing further injury.

Chen Shujuan, the head of the Happy Dog Stray Association in Taiwan, immediately took action after the kitten was discovered in Miaoli Garden.
Together with her team, she rushed the severely injured feline to a veterinary hospital, where vets found that around 90% of its body was coated in asphalt.
Originally light grey in colour, the kitten’s fur was so heavily darkened by the tar that it was barely recognisable.
The rescue effort quickly turned into an exhausting, meticulous process. According to a report from vknews24, the veterinary team spent over six hours in their initial attempt to clean the animal.
Despite using five full buckets of canola oil and several packs of corn powder, the staff still couldn’t remove all of the thick black coating.
“It can only be cleaned with canola oil,” Chen explained, adding, “Five buckets and three packs of corn powder still weren’t enough.

It has been soaked and cleaned for more than four hours.”
After the initial cleaning session, the kitten was placed in an oxygen thermostat to help stabilise her fragile condition. On Monday, March 17, another cleaning session was carried out to remove the remaining asphalt clinging to her skin and fur.
In addition to the external damage, the kitten suffered chemical burns that appeared extremely painful, adding further urgency to her recovery process.
The rescue team continued to provide round-the-clock care at the animal hospital. By Thursday, March 20, there were finally signs of progress.
Chen shared that the kitten had started eating again, gently being fed from a spoon and given medication through a syringe.
Her once-blackened fur was beginning to return to its natural grey colour, and her eyes—once dull and filled with fear—now looked brighter and more alert as she responded to treatment.
Though still in recovery, the kitten remains under the close supervision of the Happy Dog Stray Association, with hopes that she’ll continue to heal and eventually regain full strength.
