Passengers Wrestle with ‘Plane Hijacker’ Attempting to Divert Flight to US

Passengers aboard a Volaris flight in Mexico displayed remarkable courage as they subdued a man allegedly attempting to hijack the aircraft mid-flight.

The dramatic incident unfolded on a journey from El Bajío to Tijuana when the man, reportedly named Mario, demanded the plane be diverted to San Diego, in the United States.

Chaos erupted when Mario reportedly seized a flight attendant and made a desperate grab for the aircraft’s door handle.

Witnesses described the terrifying moment as passengers screamed and pleaded with him not to open the door.

In a shocking turn, the man allegedly threatened to jump to his death, claiming he would take the flight attendant with him.

Amid the turmoil, a passenger intervened, wrestling the man away from the door.

Crew members quickly stepped in to help restrain him, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.

Mario was reportedly traveling with his wife and children at the time of the incident.

The plane was forced to divert and make an emergency landing in Guadalajara, where authorities removed and arrested the suspect.

The incident occurred on December 8, according to a report by vknews24.

In a statement, a Volaris spokesperson confirmed the details, saying, “On flight 3041, which covered the route from El Bajío to Tijuana, a passenger attempted, through the use of force, to divert the plane to the United States.

The crew acted in accordance with established safety procedures and diverted the flight to Guadalajara, where the passenger was handed over to the competent authorities.”

Volaris emphasized their commitment to passenger and crew safety, stating, “All passengers, crew, and the aircraft are safe.

The rest of the passengers were protected and continued their journey to their final destination.

Volaris regrets the inconvenience caused by this situation. For Volaris, the safety of our passengers and crew is the top priority.”

The airline added that it has formally pressed charges against the suspect to ensure he faces legal consequences for his actions.
