A driver’s quick reflexes and remarkable composure helped him outmaneuver a group of armed carjackers in a heart-stopping encounter on the Mexico-Texcoco highway near Mexico City.
The dramatic escape, which was captured on a dashcam, unfolded on the afternoon of January 15 and has since drawn widespread attention.
The man was traveling with his family when an SUV suddenly swerved in front of them after overtaking a slow-moving lorry.

The vehicle came to an abrupt stop, blocking both lanes of the road.
The situation escalated when the SUV’s doors swung open and masked men armed with guns emerged.
One of them approached the family’s car with his weapon pointed at the windscreen, prompting panic inside the vehicle.
The driver’s mother, seated beside him, urged her son to reverse, repeatedly shouting, “Move back!” Acting on instinct, the driver quickly threw the car into reverse and sped away from the armed assailants, shouting, “What do I do?” as he navigated the dangerous situation.
Not to be deterred, the attackers piled back into their red Honda CR-V and pursued the family at high speed, even driving against traffic to close the distance.
When the SUV tried to box them in, the driver executed a daring maneuver, squeezing his car through a narrow gap between the pursuing vehicle and a crash barrier, before accelerating to safety.
The entire ordeal, which unfolded near Calpulalpan, highlighted the family’s tense battle for survival.
Speaking to local media, the unnamed driver revealed that his father had first spotted the potential danger.
“My dad notices a car coming.
He says, ‘Look at that SUV, it looks like it belongs to narcos,’” he recounted.
The driver explained how a passing Nissan played an inadvertent role in aiding their escape.
“A car on the left side sped up, and, well, let’s just say it cleared the way for me,” he said.
Despite the attackers’ aggressive pursuit, the family managed to evade harm.
“Fortunately, they didn’t shoot at us. My reaction was to just dodge them and get away.
We couldn’t stay there—I don’t know what would have happened to us.”
Once the danger passed, the driver reassured his family, saying, “They’re gone, they’re gone, they’re not coming after us.”
Reflecting on the harrowing experience, he added, “I didn’t see any police on the road, couldn’t get help from anyone, and we had no idea what those guys wanted from us.”
Later that day, police recovered the red SUV in San Bernardo Tlamimilolpan, roughly 30 minutes from the scene.
Investigators confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier in January in Coacalco.
While the family escaped unscathed, the incident underscores the ongoing challenges of road safety and organized crime in the region.
