Shrek Voice Actor Was ‘Wrongly Imprisoned’ for Alleged Harassment
Mexican voice actor Alfonso Obregón, known as Shrek’s Spanish voice, claims wrongful imprisonment. He shares his bizarre jail experience and fights to clear his name.

Alfonso Obregón, the Mexican voice actor best known for lending his voice to Shrek in the Spanish-language version of the animated classic, has spoken out about what he describes as a wrongful imprisonment following accusations of sexual harassment.
The 64-year-old actor, who was arrested last year while on his way to a fan convention in Colombia, insists there was no evidence against him and is now seeking justice after what he calls a harrowing ordeal.
Obregón spent only a few days behind bars in Mexico City’s notorious North Prison, but the experience was nothing like what he had anticipated.
Speaking to local media and YouTuber Jeffar Vlogs, he recounted the unusual way in which his fame softened his time in detention.
Rather than hostility, he was met with admiration from fellow inmates, many of whom were fans of Shrek and his other well-known voiceover roles, including Marty the zebra from Madagascar.

“Prisoners began to show up in my cell saying, ‘Where is Shrek? Let’s see, talk to us like Shrek,’” he recalled.
The requests didn’t stop there.
Some inmates even brought him drawings and letters, asking him to sign them for their families.

“I would say, ‘Yes, yes, yes, of course,’” he said.
What surprised Obregón most was the camaraderie he found among the prisoners.
“At first, I thought they were going to kill me, break me into pieces,” he admitted.

“But they were the ones who looked after me.
They hugged me, we became friends.
I found more help, more solidarity, and more brotherhood in prison than outside of it.”
His arrest caused a media storm, and he has since claimed that he was the target of an extortion attempt.

Now, after publicly sharing his experience, he hopes to clear his name, rebuild his career, and return to the world of voice acting.
In the original English-language version of Shrek, the iconic character was voiced by Mike Myers, but for Spanish-speaking audiences, Obregón’s rendition of the beloved green ogre remains just as memorable—especially among the unlikely fans he met behind bars.
