A three-legged kitten rescued from the roadside finds love with a surrogate mom cat. Now thriving, Comet gets a second chance at life in this heartwarming rescue story!

A tiny three-legged kitten discovered on the side of the road has found comfort in the care of a surrogate mother cat.

The fragile two-week-old kitten, named Comet, was found with his back right paw severely injured, barely hanging on.

A kind passerby, realizing the kitten was in distress, rushed him to a veterinary clinic, where the decision was made to amputate the damaged limb to spare him further suffering.

Unfortunately, Comet’s leg cannot be saved, and he will need an additional operation to remove it entirely.

Following his initial treatment, RSPCA inspector Kirsten Omerod transported him to the RSPCA Canterbury & District Branch in Kent, where he was introduced to a female tabby cat named Twinkle.

The hope was that she would accept him as her own—and she did.

Natalie Archer, the branch manager, explained that Twinkle came from a household with multiple cats, where the owner had made the difficult choice to rehome some of them for their wellbeing.

Twinkle had arrived at the shelter heavily pregnant, but complications during birth required an emergency C-section.

Tragically, out of six kittens, only one survived—whom the shelter named Little Star.

Despite her loss, Twinkle proved to be an exceptionally nurturing mother, which made the team optimistic that she would take in Comet.

Their hopes were realized when Twinkle immediately accepted the tiny kitten, caring for him as if he were her own.

She now feeds, grooms, and cuddles him alongside her biological kitten, providing him with the warmth and attention he desperately needs.

Archer emphasized the importance of surrogate mothers in cases like Comet’s, as young rescue kittens require constant care and affection that only a mother cat can provide.

Thankfully, Twinkle and both kittens are now thriving.

It remains unclear whether Comet was abandoned or if he was an injured stray when he was found, as first reported by *What’s The Jam*.
