Tube driver under investigation after viral video shows alleged drunken behavior in Mexico City, sparking safety concerns and an official probe by Metro CDMX.

A tube driver in Mexico City is under investigation after a passenger recorded footage of him allegedly appearing intoxicated while operating a train.

In the video, the driver seems to sway from side to side, and at one point, his head appears to dip forward as though he might be dozing off over the controls.

Although the train wasn’t traveling at high speed, the behavior raised alarm among commuters, with many interpreting his lack of balance as a sign of intoxication.

The passenger who captured the footage reportedly attempted to alert authorities but initially received no response.

However, after the video was shared on social media on January 7 and quickly went viral, the transport company, Metro CDMX, reached out to the individual for more details about the incident.

The alleged event took place on Line One as the train departed from the Salto del Agua station.

In response to public concerns, Metro CDMX confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine whether the driver had been under the influence.

A spokesperson for the Mexico City Transport System acknowledged the seriousness of the claims, stating that if the accusations are substantiated, disciplinary measures in line with the organization’s collective bargaining agreement will be implemented.

“An investigation has been launched to clarify the facts,” the spokesperson said.

“If what happened is confirmed, the corresponding corrective sanctions will be applied.

Thank you for the report.”

At this stage, it remains unclear if the driver was intoxicated.

Metro CDMX has assured the public that they are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness, as they aim to maintain safety standards on their network.
