Coast Guard intercepts 21 illegal immigrants off California coast

On Friday, a U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) crew intercepted a 25-foot boat carrying 21 illegal immigrants approximately 20 miles west of Point Loma, San Diego, California. The individuals were taken into custody and later handed over to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel. The Coast Guard shared a photo of the incident, which depicted two orange USCG boats alongside the small white vessel carrying the migrants. This operation is part of a broader effort by the Coast Guard to enhance border security and combat illegal immigration.

In addition to the lead vessel, the USCG Cutter Haddock, other units involved in the operation included USCG Sector San Diego, the USCG Cutter Forrest Rednour, and a CBP Air and Marine Operations patrol aircraft. This multi-agency collaboration underscores the Coast Guard’s expanded role in border enforcement, a directive that aligns with President Donald Trump’s executive orders aimed at curbing illegal immigration. Earlier this year, on January 25 and February 2, Coast Guard crews intercepted two other vessels carrying illegal immigrants off the coast of California, with 9 and 16 individuals on board, respectively. Admiral Kevin Lunday, the Coast Guard’s acting commandant, emphasized the service’s commitment to protecting America’s borders, territorial integrity, and sovereignty through enhanced operations and capabilities.

During his first full month in office, CBP reported a historic low of only 8,326 apprehensions of illegal immigrants, a significant drop compared to previous months.
